Prepare the appliance before anyone tries to move it: empty it, complete the correct utility disconnections, measure the route, and share the difficult access points with the removal provider.

Start with the widest fixed point

Measure the refrigerator at its widest, deepest, and tallest points. Then measure every fixed opening on the route. A doorway that looks generous may lose clearance to hinges, handles, trim, or an immediate turn.

Map each turn

Walk from the refrigerator to the exterior door. Record hallway width, landing depth, stair width, ceiling height, and the angle at each turn. Photos help explain a tight route better than one overall room shot.

Disconnect and empty it

Remove food, shelves that slide freely, and personal items. The water line and power must be disconnected before removal. Do not cut refrigerant lines or remove sealed-system parts.

Share the loading conditions

Mention porch steps, snow or ice, gate width, parking restrictions, and the distance to the truck. These details belong in the estimate request, not as surprises at arrival.

Erie County’s recycling directory advises residents to confirm refrigerant requirements with the receiving facility or municipality. Do not cut lines or release refrigerant.
