Prepare the appliance before anyone tries to move it: empty it, complete the correct utility disconnections, measure the route, and share the difficult access points with the removal provider.

Finish the utility work first

Arrange for the washer hoses, dryer vent, and electrical or gas connections to be handled appropriately before pickup. The removal crew should not arrive to discover a live gas connection or a washer full of water.

Check the staircase

Measure tread width, handrail clearance, landing depth, and the turn at the top. Remove loose rugs and small objects, but keep protective surfaces in place until the route is reviewed.

Control residual water

Drain the washer according to the manufacturer’s instructions and keep towels nearby. A small amount of trapped water can leak when the machine tilts on stairs.

Keep the pair identifiable

If only one machine is leaving, mark it clearly. Keep manuals, pedestals, and removable parts with the correct unit when they are included in the pickup.
